The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is giving residents still opposed to the development of a 199-lot subdivision off Ahaluna Drive in Gainesville a new angle in their fight. The corps is seeking public comment on a change in policy setting an upcoming expiration date for community dock permits on Lake Lanier. A 2012 corps decision imposed a Dec. 1 deadline for community dock permit holders with undeveloped real estate projects to obtain a final plat, but now the agency has proposed reversing course and allowing existing permits their full life.
