Hall County on Sunday extended the hours of operation at its three community centers.
“Our operating hours were cut back with the budget crisis a few years ago,” said Parks & Leisure Director Mike Little. “So it’s mainly a move to get us back to where we were before all the budget cuts.”
Little said growing demand and participation at the North Hall Community Center on Nopone Road in Gainesville, the Mulberry Creek Community Center on J.M. Turk Road in Flowery Branch and the East Hall Community Center on P. Davidson Road in Gainesville also prompted the change.
The new hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
The community centers had been closed on Sundays, but will now be open from 1- 5 p.m.
Little said six additional part-time staff, two at each community center, were hired to cover the additional operating hours.
He added that the new employees, as well as modest increases in utility costs, were approved in this year’s county budget.
