Commissioners postpone vote on GPS tracking technology

The Hall County Board of Commissioners on Thursday tabled a vote on a contract to implement a pilot program to track government vehicles in the hopes of reducing fuel costs, fraud and liability.

Executing a contract with MotionLink to install GPS tracking technology was postponed after a Gainesville company, Mobile Fleet Solutions, Inc., stepped forward with a proposal.

County officials said they would review this new proposal in the coming weeks and take up the contract discussion again later this month.

The county is considering installing the technology on 57 vehicles across several departments.

The technology can track mileage, routes and speed, alerting supervisors to any problems.
