“Papers and Pubs,” short for “Papers and Publications,” a Southeastern interdisciplinary journal of undergraduate research, has launched its inaugural issue. The publication, supported by North Georgia College & State University’s Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities, compiles articles from undergraduate research throughout the Southeast.Authors are undergraduates from universities throughout the region, including University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Davidson College, Hollins University, Sewanee: The University of the South and North Georgia.“‘Papers and Pubs' showcases some of the exceptional work of students who have conducted research as part of their undergraduate experience,” said Patricia L. Donat, vice president for academic affairs at North Georgia.“The breadth of the topics and the excellence of the publications are a testament to the commitment of the students and the support of their advisers.”Research topics include eco-criticism, international economics, the Holocaust, African-American literature, sponge habitat and elementary education.Undergraduate submissions from the 2011-12 school year were reviewed by a group of peers under the direction of the journal’s editors: Miriam Segura-Totten, Tanya Bennett and Robb Sinn. All are faculty members at North Georgia.“Research experiences can help undergraduates learn more about themselves, discover how they can contribute to society and get initiated in what could become their future career,” Segura-Totten said. The journal works to promote student learning by disseminating undergraduate research and creative works.“Papers and Pubs” is printed by the University Press of North Georgia.
