Class Notes: Department of Education redesigns website

The Georgia Department of Education is launching its redesigned website today.

Officials said it should work well on all Internet browsers, as well as devices such as smartphones and tablets.

It includes the department’s Twitter feed, an alphabetized search list and scrolling banner.

Navigation of the site was also upgraded. The aesthetics of the site will remain familiar to those who frequent it.

Gainesville school system registration center opens briefly at beginning of July

Gainesville City Schools Registration and International Center at 715 Woodsmill Road will reopen July 8.

The center will open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each Tuesday and Wednesday through July 23.

It returns to regular operating hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday on July 28.

Times welcomes new education reporter

The Times has a new education reporter on board, following Carly Sharec’s promotion to editor of The Paper of Flowery Branch, a sister publication of The Times.

Jennifer Jacob Brown recently relocated to the area from Mississippi, where she just obtained a graduate degree in English from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Brown previously worked a number of years for a daily newspaper in Meridian, Miss., covering a variety of topics including local government, as well as education news.
