A 3-year-old boy was in critical condition today after being found unresponsive in a residential swimming pool Friday night.

Hall County Sheriff's Col. Jeff Strickland said deputies and fire department first responders were called to the East Hall home of John and Stephanie McConnell in the 4600 block of Miller Lake Road about 8 p.m. Friday.

Strickland said several people were at the home for a family function and other children found the child, John Michael McConnell, floating in the in-ground pool. It was estimated that the toddler had been in the pool from five to 10 minutes, Strickland said.

Emergency medical technicians attempted resuscitation. The child then was airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.
