Ready, set, time to read.
The United Way of Hall County is promoting the importance of early childhood learning this Friday, as part of Celebrate Literacy Day as designated by the Hall County Board of Commissioners and Gainesville City Council.
By encouraging literacy and summer reading this early in the year, United Way hopes to prevent summer learning loss, which is experienced by youths when they don’t engage in educational activities during the summer months. To help out, 600 pre-K students in Gainesville City Schools and the Hall County Head Start program will receive packets of books Friday.
United Way is also asking businesses and community members to participate by hosting book drives, reading to children and discussing the importance of early learning and literacy.
