Georgia Poultry Federation elects officers for 2012-13

Ken Long was elected April 13 as the 2012-13 chairman of the Georgia Poultry Federation during the organization’s annual meeting at Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris.

Long is complex manager at Pilgrim’s Pride in Canton. He succeeds Mark Ham of American Proteins in Cumming as chairman.

In addition, Jim Shepard, senior director of Live Operations for Wayne Farms in Oakwood, was selected to the group’s board of directors. Joining him on the board will be Sammy Franklin of Fieldale Farms in Baldwin.

Other new directors elected to the board were Angela Bradach of Tyson Foods in Cumming; Kevin Cronic of Columbia Farms in Greenville, S.C.; and Mike Tamimi of Sanderson Farms in Adel.

Other officers elected were Donnie Wilburn of Harrison Poultry, as senior vice chairman; and Clay Banks of Equity Group in Camilla and Mack Guest of LAD Truck Lines in Watkinsville as vice chairmen.

The Gainesville-based Georgia Poultry Federation represents all segments of Georgia’s poultry industry, the state’s largest segment of agriculture and agribusiness in the nation’s No. 1 poultry-producing state.
