Chamber's expo offers a message: Buy local

Local businesses were pleased with the turnout Thursday at the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce’s Buy Local Business Expo.

More than 70 local businesses set up booths in the Georgia Mountains Center to meet potential clients and network with other companies.

“I have met some potential clients and traded a lot of cards,” said Jeff Dickerson, owner of JD Millwork & KraftMaid Cabinetry.
Dickerson said the expo was a great opportunity for his business.

“Small-business owners, they don’t have the capital to advertise,” Dickerson said. “It’s a good way to get some advertising at a very low cost.” Shelley McMahon, General Manager of the Flowery Branch Hampton Inn & Suites, said the expo was a good opportunity to collaborate with other businesses owners.

McMahon said she is working with local restaurants to offer discounts to people who stay at the hotel.

“If you don’t have cash money, sometimes you can work with each other,” McMahon said. “We can partner with them and barter.”
Andi Farmer from Milton Martin Honda appreciated the event’s focus on local businesses.

“One of the most important things we can do as citizens ... is spend our money at home,” Farmer said. “We need to support our friends and neighbors.”
