Smithgall Woodland Garden will participate in the sixth annual Spring Garden EXPO at Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center, along with more than 50 local growers and retailers.

The "Greatest Two-Day Plant Sale in Georgia" is set for April 11 and 12 with its usual wide array of plants, garden art, product and service vendors. Additionally, free leaf mulch and woodchips will be provided.

Thousands of plants will be on sale, from native trees and shrubs to hard-to-find daylilies, hydrangeas, ferns and hostas. Plant choices also include annuals, grasses, hanging baskets, perennials, bulbs and vegetables. Other vendors will feature the latest gardening ideas and products, from specialty gardening tools and decorative concrete to water gardens and landscape services, as well as a variety of garden art and unique pottery.

A custom-built garden shed will be raffled to benefit Hall County Habitat for Humanity.

On both days of the EXPO, free demonstrations and workshops are scheduled every hour and half-hour, from 10 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Topics include growing vegetables, double digging, perennial division, composting, propagation, landscape design, daylilies and creating a backyard habitat. Workshops will focus on gardening in drought conditions. There also will be a hands-on children's workshop.

Sponsored by the Hall County Master Gardeners and the Hall County Cooperative Extension, access to the event and parking are free. The EXPO is open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. For more information, call the Hall County Extension Office at 770-535-8293
