3 physicians re-elected to lead medical staff

Northeast Georgia Medical Center has announced its medical staff officers for 2008.

Dr. Jeff C. Reinhardt will serve as chief of staff, Dr. R. Philip Marler is vice chief of staff and Dr. Timothy A. Scully has been elected secretary and treasurer.

Reinhardt, Marler and Scully served in these positions in 2007 and have agreed to serve a second term in 2008.

Reinhardt is an OB/GYN in practice with the Center for Women’s Health at The Longstreet Clinic and has been on the medical staff since 1999.

Marler practices internal medicine with The Longstreet Clinic and has been on staff since 1992.

Scully, a cardiologist with the Northeast Georgia Heart Center, has been on staff since 1991.

Chamber names executive committee

The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce has announced its executive committee for 2008-2009.

R.K. Whitehead of Whitehead Die Casting will serve as chairman of the board, while Emily Bagwell of Whelchel, Dunlap, Jarrard & Walker will serve as chairwoman-elect. Mark Bell will serve as treasurer.

Named as vice chairs are Benny Bagwell, economic development; Tami Lee, education; Cooper Embry, government affairs, Lynn Carter, marketing and communications; Cindy Wilson, membership; Mike Allen, South Hall Council; and Dixie Truelove, community affairs.

Paul Chambers, David Lee and Darrell Snyder will serve as co-chairs of the Hallmark Vision project. Rob Fowler will chair the Vision 2030 program. Frank Norton Jr. and LeTrell Simpson will co-chair the centennial celebration of the chamber.

John Vardeman will be senior advisor and Denise Deal will be immediate past chairwoman.

Kit Dunlap is president and chief executive officer.

Corsaro to head security at medical center

Northeast Georgia Medical Center has named Andrew Corsaro as director of Security and Emergency Preparedness.

Corsaro comes from Baltimore, Md., where he served as a task force agent on the FBI and Baltimore City Police Department’s Joint Terrorism Task Force. He has also served on a joint task force between the Baltimore City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. He has more than 10 years of law enforcement experience.

Corsaro received a criminal justice degree from Northeastern University in Boston and completed training at the Maryland Police Academy as well as specialized training with U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FBI and U.S. Department of Energy.

"My goal is to reinforce the importance of security and awareness among all NGHS employees and create a safe, healing environment for our patients and visitors," he said.

Corsaro’s family includes his wife, Denise, and two sons, Mason and Matthew.

VerValin to head physician services at Northeast Georgia Health System

Paul VerValin has been named vice president of physician services of the Northeast Georgia Health System.

VerValin was formerly with Partners Healthcare System, which was founded by Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

He spent four years serving as vice president for physician services for North Shore Medical Center and president and chief executive of North Shore Physicians Group, a multispecialty practice with more than 200 physicians.

VerValin is a certified medical practice executive through the Medical Group Management Association. He received a master’s degree in health care administration and an MBA from Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne.

He also serves as the elected chair of the Group Practice Improvement Network, a national organization of large medical practices.

As vice president of physician services, VerValin will oversee the primary care network and strategic physician services.

"I believe in integrated delivery systems. It is crucial for hospitals and physicians to work together to provide the best care for our patients," VerValin said.
