Kitchen Inspections, week of Oct. 26-31

The following are among the food service establishments inspected from Oct. 26-31 by the Hall County Health Department. The department scores on a 100-percentile scale, with 85 and above considered passing. Kitchens are inspected at least every six months and are required to post their score sheets in public.

A new establishment that has never served food must score a 100 to receive an initial report. When a restaurant changes ownership, another inspection is required. The establishment must score a 94 or higher to receive a new permit. To register a complaint against a restaurant, call the health department at (770) 531-3973.

Oct. 26

Riverbend Elementary, 1742 Cleveland Highway, Gainesville

Score: 94

Several scoops stored in container under prep table with dried food residue on them. Paint peeling off wall at front of dish machine. Fan over clean side of dish machine with build-up of dust that can blow onto clean kitchenware.

Score: 94

Hot water sanitizing dish machine not reaching required 160 degrees internally (180 degrees on machine gauge) during final rinse. Both serving line pass-thru coolers with deteriorated door gaskets. Right serving line pass-thru (front) with ripped door gasket. Wall mounted fans in kitchen, dish room and serving lines need a good cleaning. Hood with flaking paint inside.

Score: 93

Raw eggs stored over ready-to-eat foods in walk-in cooler. Potatoes stored in box next to handsink. Lowboy cooler at bar with condensate leak allowing water to pool in bottom cooler. Clean glasses being stored beside handsink. Tongs and baskets stored hanging on spigots in hood system. Leaks at faucet at mop sink and at pipe that drains dish machine at bar. Soap missing at handsink next to grill. No paper towels at handsink in bar area and in salad prep area. Personal items (jackets, handbags, food, keys, etc.) being stored on shelves with food, utensils and single service used for customers.

Bottles of dressing with use by dates of Sept. 15 and Oct. 22 in walk in cooler. Cutting boards on make line coolers with mold and debris. Utensils in containers and container with food residue. Tops of bottles being washed off in prep sink. Walk-in freezer with condensate leak. Shelves in walk-in cooler are very rusty. Ceilings and walls throughout kitchen with food splatter. Several ceiling tiles with dust. Holes in wall near bag in box. Walls in dry storage peeling paint.

Cutting boards on make line cooler with residue and water on underneath side. Knives, can opener and other utensils with food residue. Make line cooler and walk-in freezer with condensate leak. Grease storing tank in back area leaking grease onto floor. Grease on floors underneath fryers running out on floor in front of fryers. Floors throughout kitchen peeling and pitting.
