ATLANTA — The metro Gainesville’s unemployment rate stayed the same at 5.5 percent from February to March, but it was down from 6.8 percent a year ago, the Georgia Department of Labor announced today. While the March rate was unchanged, Gainesville employers created more jobs and laid off fewer workers. The number of jobs increased to 77,300 in March, up by 200, or 0.3 percent, from 77,100 in February.
