Golden Nail Award given to businesses

Main Street Gainesville honored 13 downtown business and property owners as well as the City of Gainesville and Brenau University for the investment of more than $4.5 million in new and renovated projects in the downtown area.

According to data from the group, the investments accounted for 229 new or retained jobs, six new businesses, four expanded businesses and a property acquisition

The honorees were presented with Main Street’s Golden Nail Award at its annual dinner at Interactive Neighborhood for Kids.

Golden Nail Award winners for work in 2007 included:

Jan Cooley: Purchase and renovation of the 311 Green St. building.

Brenau University: Renovation of space in the Featherbone Center for the nursing school.

Interactive Neighborhood for Kids: Renovation of their space in the Featherbone Center.

Harrison Tire and Oil Co.: Renovation of their building at 124 W. Academy St.

City of Gainesville: Renovation of City Hall.

Hall Community Bank: Renovation of their space in the 311 Green St. building.

A.J.’s Fun, Food and Friends: Renovation of 322 Spring St.

Wild Wings Café: Renovation of 311 Jesse Jewell Parkway.

Scott’s On the Square: Renovation of 110 Main St.

RaD Services: Renovation at 222 Main St.

Dental South Inc.: Renovation at 123 Washington St.

Carol’s Closet: Renovation of 114 Washington St.

The Crystal Plate: Renovation of 112 Bradford St.
