A freshly repaved Buford Dam Road is set to reopen at 3 Friday, ahead of schedule.

Access to the park entrances that border the road is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday.

“We wish to thank those commuters that utilized the detours around Buford Dam Road and both Gwinnett and Forsyth counties for their assistance,” said Chris Lovelady, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' assistant operations project manager at Lake Lanier.

Work on the 2-mile section of Buford Dam Road began Oct. 11 and was scheduled to be finished Nov. 5.

The detour routes have been Ga. 369 and Ga. 20. Corps officials estimated the closure would add about 15 to 30 minutes to commute times.
