A Brenau University vice president was sworn in Thursday to serve on the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission.

Gov. Nathan Deal installed Toby Hinton, vice president for financial services, as a member of the board, which regulates private colleges and universities, both nonprofit institutions like Brenau as well as for-profit entities.

The commission strives to make certain that the institutions are educationally sound and financially secure, according to a news release from Brenau.

Hinton of Suwanee will represent the 7th Congressional District.

“Toby is an excellent addition to this important commission,” said Brenau President Ed Schrader, who recommended Hinton for membership.

“He is a skilled financial auditor and can very quickly size up an institution’s stability and viability.”

After serving several years with a private accounting firm as the university’s outside auditor, Hinton joined Brenau in 2012.
