Touted a “one-stop shop” for development needs, the Hall County Planning Department has been renamed Hall County Planning and Development.

The change is part of the county’s strategic plan and is being made to clear permitting delays caused in part by a glut of applications by metro Atlanta developers expanding into the Hall market.

The newly named department houses all of the staff handling business licenses, building inspections, development review, the Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization, geographic information system, and planning and zoning.

The department will house an engineer working as a development review manager, who will serve as the point person for developers and will walk them through the county’s review process.

The official change takes place July 1, but the department is already operating under the new system, according to a Tuesday, May 29, announcement from Hall County.
