Hall County Sheriff’s Office officials gather at Bell’s Mill Bridge Tuesday morning to investigate a body that was spotted in the water below by a passing truck driver.

Hall County Sheriff’s officials are waiting on toxicology tests to determine the cause of death for David A. West, 45, of Gainesville.

His body was found in Lake Lanier around 11 a.m. Tuesday near Bells Mill Bridge on U.S. 129.

An autopsy conducted Wednesday morning confirmed that no foul play is suspected, Col. Jeff Strickland said.

West was reported missing early Saturday morning by a roommate. The man left his Athens Highway home on Saturday, and people reported seeing him around the bridge at 3 a.m. Sunday. The roommate said he seemed depressed when he left, Strickland said.

“We sent investigators to search the area near the bridge when he was reported missing, but they were unable to find him at that time,” he said.

The incident is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
