Amtrak, which has had a longtime presence in Hall County, could get a serious funding boost if a bill now moving through Congress eventually passes. Legislation proposed by Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., would increase funding for the passenger rail service and set up an annual stream of grant funding that could be used to make improvements to the aging Northeast corridor. Introduced by Booker and Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., the bill would give Amtrak $1.65 billion per year for the next four years.
