A bicyclist who was struck and killed by a vehicle in Gainesville Saturday has been identified by county coroner's officials as T.J. Pattillo, 31, of the South Hall County area.

The collision happened on Sloan Mill Road as Pattillo and a friend were taking an early morning bike ride, said Hall County Coroner Marion Merck. A car travelling in the same direction hit the cyclists from behind.

Patillo was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he died a few hours later. His friend suffered minor injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol is continuing its investigation and has released no other details. The coroner's investigation is also pending, said Merck.

Merck said this is the first accident involving a cyclist fatality in Hall County in several years.
