Listen to Gainesville offensive line coach John Kemp talking about the growth of his players.
A few friendly faces, and a few not so friendly, gathered in the downtown Gainesville square this week for the sixth annual Scarecrow on the Square, held by Interactive Neighborhood for Kids.

The event pits scarecrows, decorated by local businesses and organizations, against each other in a contest to determine the best decorated.

The overall winner of the contest was Gainesville Bank & Trust with a scarecrow decorated like a frog.

Winners in the business category were:

First place: City of Gainesville — CMO

Second place: United States Postal Service — Dahlonega

Third place: GTO 2000 Inc.

Winners in the schools and nonprofits category were:

First place: Amanda Kemps’ class at Centennial Arts Academy

Second place: Gainesville Ballet

Third place: Mrs. Smith’s fourth-grade class at Lakeview Academy.
