A registered sex offender in Gainesville on probation for sexual exploitation of children now faces 85 new counts of the charge, according to authorities.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office got a cybertip from the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force late last year that led to the home of Juan Daniel Martinez, 42, on Truelove Road.

The Georgia Department of Community Supervision’s Gainesville field office sent officers to meet with Martinez Dec. 13, leading to Martinez’s arrest on a probation violation and the seizure of several phones, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth said this week.

“Through forensic processing of Martinez’s phones, Sheriff Office Investigators determined that Martinez possessed at least 85 images of children engaged in sexually explicit display and/or acts, both alone and with adults,” Booth wrote in a news release.

Martinez was served with the sexual exploitation warrants Jan. 6 at the jail, where he has remained since Dec. 13.

Martinez was previously sentenced in November 2017 to five years in confinement on a total 20-year sentence. The remainder of the sentence would be on probation.

The court approved in January 2019 a modification to his custodial sentence 14 months and seven days, meaning the time behind bars was “deemed served.”

The case is still under investigation.

Attorney information was not available for Martinez Tuesday, Jan. 7.
