1. Birth certificate (must be a certified copy)
2. Immunzation on Georgia Form 3231 that requires various shots
3. Social Security card
4. Proof of Residence (such as a utility bill, lease agreement, bill of sales)
5. Physicians' records of eye, ear and dental screenings
6. Withdrawal slip from previous school or last report card showing grade placement

If parents know for which school their child is zoned within the Hall County system, parents can take these items directly to the school. Parents who anticipate their child will be in the Gainesville system have the option of choosing any school in the city district if space is available, and may enroll children at their school of choice.

Also, students living outside city limits who wish to attend schools in the Gainesville system may have the opportunity to enroll in the system if classrooms are not at capacity. Out-of-city students must pay a $450 tuition fee.

Pre-K and kindergarten age requirements
Children have to be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in the Gainesville school system's pre-k program. Shirley Whitaker, assistant superintendent of the Gainesville school system, said the system enrolls pre-k students at the system's central office in January. Whitaker said it costs nothing to enroll a child into pre-k or kindergarten, but many children are placed on a waiting list due to high demand.

Children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in Gainesville or Hall County schools' kindergarten programs. Berry Walton, principal of Friendship Elementary School, said the Hall County school system deadline for kindergarten is typically during late March or early April. The child will undergo a 10-minute academic assessment upon enrollment, he said. Walton said parents who do not speak English or who are unable to present Social Security cards may receive help enrolling their child in public school at the Hall County Schools International Center.
