Two arguing parents are accused of leaving a baby on the side of Old Cornelia Highway in Rabbittown, according to Hall County authorities.

A store clerk at the PetroFast Food Store on Old Cornelia Highway called authorities about a 9-month-old child “left on the side of the road in a car seat,” according to Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Nicole Bailes.

While waiting for deputies to arrive, a woman came in to the store claiming the child as her own.

The Division of Family and Children Services received notice of the incident.

“During the course of the investigation it was determined that the child was left on the road as a result of a domestic dispute between the child’s mother and father,” Bailes wrote in an email.

Heather Demonia, 33, and Thomas Broome, 30, both of Gainesville, were charged with reckless conduct.

Further charges are pending, and the investigation is open, Bailes said.

The child was uninjured.
