A Buford man is accused of unlawfully entering his father’s house and setting a pile of combustible items on fire in the living room, according to authorities.

Aaron Ecclecius Shaw, 29, and Whitney Reagan Batts, 31, of Hall County, were charged with first-degree arson and first-degree burglary. Shaw was booked Feb. 27 in to the Hall County Jail, where he remains. Batts was booked in to the jail April 6 and was released on bond April 8.

Batts’ attorney Leslie Aiken declined to comment, and Shaw’s attorney David Hoffer did not return a request for comment.

According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and court documents, Batts and Shaw entered the Flowery Branch home Feb. 21.

“Once inside, Shaw piled up combustible materials on the living room floor and ignited them,” Lt. Scott Ware wrote in a news release.

Arson investigators obtained warrants on Feb. 23.
