A Macon man allegedly sent lewd images of himself to someone he believed to be 14 years old, Hall County Sheriff’s Office authorities said.

John Allen Fortney, 28, allegedly communicated Aug. 9 with undercover investigators posing as a 14-year-old girl on social media. Fortney allegedly sent lewd images over the social media app, authorities said.

“After communicating with the undercover investigator, Fortney arranged to meet at a pre-determined location,” Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Nicole Bailes wrote in a news release.

Two days after the alleged communication began, investigators tried to meet with Fortney in Hall County. Fortney never arrived, and the sheriff’s office obtained warrants for his arrest.

Twiggs County deputies apprehended Fortney during a traffic stop and took him into custody on those warrants, Bailes wrote.

“As a part of that traffic stop, electronic devices were seized and taken in as evidence,” Bailes wrote.

Further charges are pending, and the case is still under investigation.

Fortney was booked into Hall County Jail without bond Tuesday. He was charged with aggravated child molestation, electronic enticement of a child and obscene Internet contact with a child.
