Hall County Sheriff's Office authorities have identified the victim of Friday's train collision in Oakwood as Shon Morrison of Gainesville.
Norfolk-Southern called 911 reporting the incident at Main and Railroad streets, according to Deputy Nicole Bailes, spokeswoman with the Sheriff’s Office.
Medical crews found the man dead when they arrived, according to Scott Cagle, spokesman for the Hall County Fire Services. He was identified at the time as a 40-year-old man.
A dozen or so deputies and other law enforcement inspected the scene behind Metals USA on Old Mundy Mill Road.
Investigators sprayed orange paint on the rock trail to the side of the train, marking points of interest for evidence collection.
A pocketknife was found near the man’s remains.
Bailes said it’s unclear whether the incident was intentional, but the Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
“Investigators will review the train’s surveillance footage and work closely with Norfolk to determine what occurred,” she said.
The train surveillance, Bailes said, will not be available for a few days.
