A man came home from church on Sunday afternoon to find a couple trying to steal a four-wheeler, saws and other items from his North Hall property, according to authorities.
Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies were notified of the situation in the 4400 block of Nopone Road about 2:30 p.m. and responded to the scene. That’s when Hunter Bay Lance, 20, of Gainesville, and girlfriend Chelsea Lynn Southers, 17, of Gainesville, attempted to leave in their vehicle, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Nicole Bailes said in an email, before the vehicle got stuck in a ditch and the pair allegedly attempted to flee on foot.
Lance and Southers were arrested shortly thereafter and taken to the Hall County Jail on Sunday night.
Bailes said the couple had entered the residence and loaded their vehicle with a “(four-)wheeler, chainsaws, leaf blowers, saws and other (miscellaneous) automotive equipment” before the homeowner arrived.
Both are charged with first-degree burglary and theft by taking, while Lance faces three charges of obstruction of an officer and has a hold placed on him due to an outstanding probation warrant in White County.
Southers is a recovered juvenile who had been missing since July 29, 2014. The Sheriff’s Office previously sought the public’s help in locating Southers in April 2015.
