If you’ve been wondering about something in your community, Ask The Times is your place to get answers. The following question was submitted by a reader and answered through the efforts of our news staff.

Who was Saul’s named for?

It was the maiden name of current owner Lawrence “Lorry” Schrage’s mother, Augusta “Gussie” Schrage, who along with her husband William “Bill” Schrage first opened the store on the Gainesville square in 1939.

Her brother owned a similar store in Dalton, and her sister had a similar store in Griffin. They all used the “Saul’s” name in case they decided to go in together on their businesses in the future, Lorry Schrage said.
