America’s legacy as an immigrant nation waved proudly from the federal courthouse in downtown Gainesville on Friday morning as 54 individuals from more than 30 countries became naturalized U.S. citizens, swearing their allegiance to Old Glory. “It doesn’t happen to everybody,” said Lilian Nyahwai, who was born in the African nation of Zimbabwe and came to the United States about 15 years ago. Nyahwai, while waiting to check in, said she was “looking forward to seeing what (the ceremony) is all about,” and expressed a feeling of unchecked gratitude.
