Action was delayed on a proposed 168-unit apartment complex off McEver Road near Oaks Miniature Golf by the Oakwood Planning Commission on Monday, March 19.
The commission voted to table rezoning the site at 3625 McEver Road and 3634 Old Pleasant Hill Road because the applicant, 3625 McEver Rd. LLC, was not at the meeting.
“I’m not sure why they would not be here to discuss something this big,” Chairwoman Melissa Puckett said.
Ordinarily, the commission would either recommend approval or denial, and the measure — in this case, rezoning the property from agricultural to planned residential development — would then move on to the Oakwood City Council for final approval.
The project, one of several lately to crop up lately on McEver Road, a major traffic artery, would sit on 11.27 acres between McEver and Old Pleasant Hill Road, with access off both roads, according to a map submitted with the proposal.
The complex would have a mixture of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. It also would feature a swimming pool, clubhouse, bike paths and sidewalks.
South Hall neighbors Flowery Branch and Oakwood are going through a residential boom, with Oakwood City Council recently approving a 255-home mixed use development on McEver, a few miles south of the proposed apartments.
That development would feature 44 townhomes and 211 single-family homes, as well as
19 acres for commercial uses that, according to the developer, is already attracting interest.
