A Clarkston girl was in critical condition Sunday after she was pulled the previous day from Lake Lanier by bystanders.

Melissa Cummings, spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, had no further information about Athra Abbulla, who is being treated at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.

Athra was taken first to Northside-Forsyth Hospital after several people tried to rescue her at Lower Overlook Park at Buford Dam just after 2 p.m. Saturday.

When paramedics arrived, an off-duty nurse already was administering CPR to the girl on the shore.

Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Capt. Tommy Rutledge said he had no other updates on the incident.

"It’s unclear whether she was playing in the water, or slipped or jumped in," Rutledge said on Saturday.
