A 2-year-old boy was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday and a teen charged with DUI and vehicular homicide in the incident, according to authorities.
Joshua Saunders, 19, of Gainesville was arrested on charges of DUI, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and vehicular homicide, Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Auston Allen said, adding information gathered indicated Saunders was the boy’s uncle.
It happened at 12:25 p.m. Sunday at a residence on the 2400 block of Miller Drive off Old Cornelia Highway in East Hall when Saunders attempted to back up in a black 1978 Chevrolet K10 and the toddler ran behind the vehicle, according to Allen.
Allen said a Hall County sheriff’s deputy escorted Saunders back to the scene after spotting him about a half mile away.
The boy, identified as Landen Morton, was pronounced dead at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, according to officials.
Toxicology tests on blood-alcohol content are pending, according to Allen.
