The Georgia Department of Transportation is planning on replacing the bridge over the Chattahoochee River on Highway 129 in 2016-17 at a cost of $12.1 million. The East Fork bridge will also be replaced at an estimated cost of $7.4 million.
Two different stretches of U.S. 129, both busy as they run through Hall County, are on different timelines for improvement. The Athens Highway part of U.S. 129 going through East Hall is on track toward construction, with the Georgia Department of Transportation displaying maps of the $46 million project at a public information meeting last week. On the other hand, the Cleveland Highway/Ga. 11 section of the road in North Hall between Limestone Parkway and Nopone Road “is not active,” DOT district spokeswoman Teri Pope said.
