Two Johnson High School seniors who were arrested Monday made bond that night and were released from the Hall County Jail.

Authorities say Edwin Huizar, 17, brought a BB gun to school Monday and while showing it to Jessie Reyes, 17, another student was accidentally shot in the back of the head.

Huizar and Reyes have been charged with possession of a weapon on school property, a felony. Huizar also was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Both teens waived a probable cause hearing and will next have an arraignment in either Hall County superior or state court. The court date is not yet set.

The incident happened about 9 a.m. in the media center when the gun accidentally discharged, striking a student who was sitting at a nearby table, school spokesman Gordon Higgins said. The student was treated by the school nurse.

The two students were immediately suspended, pending a disciplinary tribunal by the school system, officials said. Huizar was held on $11,000 bond and Reyes on $10,000 bond, Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks, spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said Monday.
