Police arrested two people who they say were attempting to break into cars Saturday, Feb. 10, at a Gainesville apartment complex.
Five people had reported items stolen from their vehicles between Feb. 2 and Feb. 5 and two cars had been stolen from the Lake Lanier Club Apartments on Dawsonville Highway. Another three reports were made between Friday and Saturday in the same area.
Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said authorities believe all the cases
are related.
At 5:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a call about suspicious activity in
that area and found Zechariah Jay Givens, 21, of Grantville, and a juvenile
male.
“It appears that an alert neighbor spotted them and they contacted us,” Holbrook said.
Police said the suspects ran but were quickly caught.
Givens faces charges of criminal attempt to commit a crime, entering a car to steal and misdemeanor obstruction of an officer.
Police are working with other jurisdictions on the case and more charges are possible.
Police investigators are looking for additional victims who haven’t contacted police. Victims can contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 770-534-5254.
