Authorities have confirmed at least one person is dead following a plane crash in Dawson County near Auraria Road off Ga. 400.
Dawson County Emergency Services Director Billy Thurmond said Dawson County 911 received notification from the Federal Avaiation Administration that a distress call had been made from an aircraft in the area around 7:20 Monday night.
According to Dawson County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Tony Wooten, the sheriff’s office has received confirmation that a small plane was believed to have crashed in the area.
Authorities have found debris around the area and are currently searching on foot for survivors.
Officials said only one person was on the plane.
According to Wooten, it is unknown at this time where the plane had departed from or where it was headed.
Crews from Dawson, Forsyth and Lumpkin counties, as well as the Georgia State Patrol and Department of Natural Resources, were on the scene.
