The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Hartness of Gainesville. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph William Medlyn Jr. of Durham, N.C.
The Rev. Dr. William Lloyd Coates Jr., performed the ceremony. A string trio presented a program of wedding music.
The bride was presented in marriage by her father. The bride's friend Mrs. Danielle Elliott Smith of St. Louis was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were the bride's friends Miss Marla Ann Cichowski of Chicago, Mrs. Ellie Merritt Zeiger of Columbus, Ohio, Miss Theresa Anne Sechrist of Greenville, S.C., and Miss Carrie Suzanne Hunker of Chicago. The bride's godchild Miss Delaney Marra Smith of St. Louis was the flower girl.
The groom's father was the best man. Groomsmen were the bride's brother Mr. Edward Russell Hartness of Gainesville, the groom's brother Mr. Scott William Medlyn of Washington, D.C., the groom's friends Mr. Edward Jude Dempsey of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mr. Neil Leslie Sparks of Blacksburg, Va. The matron of honor's son Master Cooper Robert Smith of St. Louis was the ring bearer. Ushers were Mr. David Ellis, Mr. Robert Harris, Mr. Micah Hicks and Mr. Jeffrey Parkey.
Ms. Ellie Deloach was the wedding coordinator. Mrs. Lane Hartness and Mrs. Jennifer Mihalic kept the bride's book.
The bride wore a diamond pendant given to her by her father and a pearl bracelet given to her by the groom. She carried a handkerchief and brooch wrapped around her bouquet given to her by her maternal grandmother.
The groom's parents gave a rehearsal dinner at Jekyll Island Club Hotel on the eve of the wedding.

Following a honeymoon to Barcelona, Spain, and Paris, the couple reside in Durham, N.C.
