Jennifer Katherine Carlton and Michael Lee Smith were united in marriage at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 19, 2015, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Gainesville. The bride is the daughter of Judy Eberhardt Carlton of Gainesville, John Allen Carlton and Pam Carlton of Pflugerville, Texas. The groom is the son of Marilynn Unger Smith and Richard “Dick” Smith of Athens.

Rev. Calvin Haney performed the ceremony. Pianist Terry Sapp, vocalists Tim and Laura Gale, vocalist Rev. Ed Cook and string trio Bella Musica presented a program of wedding music.

The bride was presented in marriage by her parents. The bride’s sorority sister Kristy Hammond of Cleveland was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were the bride’s sorority sister Melissa Shepherd Browher of Kennesaw, bride’s friends Kristie Chosewood Smart of Gainesville and Kelley Clark Grantham of Elba, Ala.

The groom’s friend G. Derek Adams of Athens was the best man. Groomsmen were the groom’s friend Steven Carroll of Jefferson, groom’s brother Charles Smith of Scottdale and groom’s father Dick Smith of Athens. Ushers were Eric Burrell and Jeff Chen.

Irene Schmidt was the wedding coordinator. GG Events assisted with the reception, flowers and decorations.

The bride carried a small old testament that belonged to her grandmother, wore a sixpence worn by her mother on her wedding day, ruby slippers and a blue gingham checked garter in honor of her favorite movie, The Wizard of Oz.

The groom’s parents gave a rehearsal dinner at Luna’s in Gainesville on the eve of the wedding.

The bride’s family and the groom’s family gave a reception at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Gainesville following the ceremony.

Following a honeymoon to Chateau Elan and Myrtle Beach, S.C., the couple reside in Gainesville.
