Gourmet Caramel Apples
12 small apples, washed and dried, stems removed
2 14-ounce bags soft caramel candies, unwrapped
1/4 cup pulp-free orange juice
Assorted small candies, chopped nuts and sprinkles
Cupcake liners, flattened
Insert the craft sticks into the stem-ends of the apples.
In a medium saucepan combine the caramel candies and orange juice and melt over medium heat. Stir occasionally and cook until the candies have melted and the mixture is smooth. Set aside to cool for two minutes.
Dip the apples in the caramel until coated. Lift the apples out of the caramel mixture and swirl gently to remove excess coating. Place each dipped apple on a flattened, cupcake liner. Allow the apples to set at room temperature for about two hours.
Decorate your apples with desired additions. Allow the apples to set at room temperature for another three hours.
