Local food Olympian gets closer to gold

Last weekend, local chef Daryl Shular advanced past the first round of the ACF Culinary Team USA competition at Elgin Community College in Elgin, Ill.
 
Shular, who competed in the cold food segment, was one of 15 who qualified to compete in the second tryout — the hot-food segment — on April 11 at the college.
 
If Shular advances past this second round of competition, he will have the chance to represent the United States on the ACF Culinary Team USA in the 2012 International Culinary Art Exhibition — the “culinary Olympics” — in Erfurt, Germany.
 
Shular is the corporate executive chef at Performance Food Group in Oakwood and has previously competed with the six-member IKA team.
