CUMMING — Forsyth County residents will be able to get their oil changed, a haircut and makeover for free today thanks to a regional church.

North Lanier Baptist Church’s A Day of Hope event March 7 will offer free services to anyone in the county from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.

All automotive services, including oil changes, tire rotations and emission testing will be provided at Herbert Automotive and Handy Lube locations.

Haircuts, manicures and makeovers are being provided at the church by Mak Beauty Institute.

“We’re targeting the people who could really use the services: single-parent households, low-income families, the homeless, elderly,” said Lynne Byers, ministry lead at the church.

But, she said, the event is open to everyone.

“Christ called on us to love each other,” she said. “This will help people see that, that’s what God is calling us to do.”

Although the event is in its second year, this is the first one-day event. Last spring, the church conducted three days of hope.

The three-day event has been moved to the fall, Byers said. But organizers didn’t want to go 18 months without serving the community.

Fall’s Three Days of Hope will also offer free medical services from Northside Hospital-Forsyth and free dental care.

While more than 315 adults received free services last spring, Byers said they hope to see about 200 today. They aim to help about 500 in the fall.

“These are all community businesses that have stepped up and said we want to help,” Byers said.
