The Gainesville Navy JROTC Precision Rifle Team recently traveled to Augusta for a competition. The team finished fourth overall with a score of 1,109. Sporter team member Alex Uscanga was the top shooter with a score of 254 and Max Alanis was second with a 242. Noe Galvan was third with a 222.

Both teams have qualified for the Navy JROTC Area 12 state championship next month at Fort Benning.

The following Gainesville students recently were named to the LaGrange College fall semester dean's list: Eric Brian Clark, Mushimie Lona Panda, William David Simons and Elizabeth Jane Williams.

To be eligible for this honor, students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.6 while taking a minimum course load of 12 hours.

Ricky Dale Thrasher of Gainesville recently received the doctorate of ministry at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Thrasher, a consultant for the Georgia Baptist Convention in Duluth, is married to the former Janet Smith of Gainesville. He is the son of Ted and Rayrene Thrasher of Flowery Branch.

Thrasher's home church is Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Gainesville.

Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland has named Trey Kevin Ivey of Flowery Branch and Lana Elaine Palmer and Cory Levi Smith, both of Gainesville, to the dean's list for the fall 2008 semester.

Kelly Michelle Jackson of Gainesville was named to the president's club.

Students named to the dean's list must maintain a semester grade-point average of 3.5 or higher, while president's club students have a perfect GPA of 4.0.
