GSC honor student Brittany Barron recently had her poetry selected for publication in the 2012 edition of Sanctuary, a literary arts journal of the Southern Regional Honors Council. Barron is the daughter of Jerry and Deborah Barron and granddaughter of Charles and Marjorie Barron.



North Hall High School student McCoy Savage has been recognized by the United States Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in mathematics. Savage is the son of Larry and Sanrda Savage of Gainesville and the grandson of Stanley and Barbara Ertzberger of Gaiensville.



Students of the Health Sciences programs at North Georgia Technical College were celebrated for completing their programs of study and achieving eligibility to sit for state or national certification in their field of study. Each student waited to receive a pin signifying their entry into their chosen profession

Medical Assisting student Breanna Bryant of Gainesville is the daughter of Debbie Brown and Greg Bryant. She was pinned by her grandmother, Shirley Bryant, and her sister Samantha Gress.

Medical Assisting student Amanda Wilson of Lula is married to Carl Wilson. She is eager to begin her career as a Medical Assistant. She was pinned by her husband.



Christina White , daughter of Broughton and Regina Cochran, was recently inducted in the Kappa Delta Pi honor society for education at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Individuals are invited into Kappa Delta Pi on basis of high academic achievement and leadership attributes.



Jordan Schoon, son of Daniel Schoon of Gainesville and John and Kristy Crider, has received a Baldor Electric Company Foundation Scholarship for the upcoming school year. Jordan plans to attend Indiana University at Bloomington and study accounting.



Elizabeth Cannon of Gainesville was among Western Carolina University students who received academic awards during the 2011-12 school year.

Cannon was recognized as recipient of the Taft B. and Malvery Botner Scholarship during the annual awards ceremony for WCUs College of Education and Allied Professions.

A junior during the spring semester majoring in elementary education, Cannon is the daughter of Anthony and Debbie Cannon of Gainesville.



Lakeview academy student Katherine L. Sartor of Gainesville was recently selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars for her academic excellence.



Flowery Branch resident and local high school student, Austin Paul, has successfully completed the Freedom Alliance Military Leadership Academy at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pa.

The academy provides high school students an opportunity to examine military lifestyle and culture while gaining valuable leadership experiences.
