0309-GN-Furey1
Gov. Nathan Deal, left, greets Hall County native Andrew Furey, right, during a Disability Day event Feb. 20 at the state capital. Furey, an East Hall High School graduate and Georgia Tech student, spoke at the 16th annual event marking the 15th anniversary of the Olmstead decision. The Supreme Court ruling paved the way for people with disabilities to leave institutions and enter the community to live fuller lives. Furey was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at age 3 and recounted his story at the event. Disability Day brought together some 2,000 Georgians, sponsored by the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities.
