The Gainesville High School Class of 1962 recently held its 50th class reunion at Smithgall Arts Center.

The grandchildren of former mayors Ernest Moore and Jim Hartley greeted guests in an original GHS football jersey and cheerleader uniform.

A memorabilia room was set up with numerous items including class rings, circle pins, letterman jackets, newspaper clippings and class photos through the years.

The class even recreated the principal’s office complete with a life-size photo of Principal Strickland, a wooden paddle and his ashtray.

Several popular items of the era were on display including a 1957 Chevy, several 45 records, poodle skirts, copies of Life and Seventeen magazines, crepe paper, metal roller skates and wooden tennis rackets.

The movie "American Graffiti" played on a television in the recreated "teacher’s lounge."

Numerous classmates turned out for the event headed by Philip Wilheit, Scotty Gunter and Carole Moore Freeman.
