The North Georgia Community Foundation recently awarded $180,950 in scholarships to North Georgia high school students who will begin college this fall, including 37 students from Hall County.

“The donors who have established scholarship funds with the Foundation understand how important it is to help students meet their academic goals,” North Georgia Community Foundation President Jim Mathis said. “Furthering the education of our students is vital to all the communities in our area.”

In 2014, the North Georgia Community Foundation awarded 145 scholarships from 26 scholarship funds established by donors at the Foundation.

Founded in 1985 by Lou Fockele and other business leaders, the North Georgia Community Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the spirit and quality of life in the Northeast Georgia community by building, managing and awarding charitable grants from a pool of community funds valued in excess of $47 million. To date, more than $45 million in grants have been awarded. The organization also promotes training and networking among the region’s nearly 300 nonprofits.
