Doug and Sharon Turk of Gillsville announce the engagement of their daughter Jessie Clarice Turk to Jason Andrew Bland, son of Gini Bland of Athens and William Bland Jr. of Sylvania.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Felton and Blanch Turk, and the late Frank and Florine Barfield.

She is a 2006 graduate of East Hall High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2010 from the University of Georgia in Athens with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture, with an emphasis in animal science. She received a master of science degree in agricultural communications at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla. She is employed as a project coordinator by the Georgia Peanut Commission in Tifton.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Reta Bland of Statesboro and the late William Bland Sr., Leonard Simpson of Abbeville, Ala., and Betty Simpson of Inverness, Fla.

He is a 2005 graduate of Screven County High School in Sylvania. He graduated in 2011 from the University of Georgia in Athens with a bachelor of science degree in forest management and natural resources, and a bachelor of science degree in wildlife management and natural resources. He is employed by the Georgia Department of Public Safety in Cordele.

The couple plan to wed Oct. 11, 2014, at The Barn at Price Mountain Farm in Pendergrass.
