William Scott and Camille Damian McGarity of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter Raleigh Marie McGarity to Colby Ellis Merchant, son of Darren Wayne Briant and Dee Driesler Merchant of Alton, Mo., and David Louis and Annette Merchant of Frankfort, Ky.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Raymond Traian and Jean Clifton Damian of Watkinsville, John and Margaret McGarity of Dahlonega, and the late Anne Baird McGarity.

She is a 2005 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2008 from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala., with a bachelor of arts degree in communication and information sciences. She received a master’s degree in 2011 at Valdosta State University in Valdosta. She is employed as a medical librarian by Northeast Georgia Health System Inc. in Gainesville.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Joseph Frank and Mary Jane Johnson Driesler of Bartow, Fla., and Louis Edward and Ruby Ann Ellis Merchant of Frankfort, Ky.

He is a 2005 graduate of Benedictine Military School in Savannah. He graduated in 2011 from the University of Georgia in Athens with a bachelor of arts degree in history. He is employed as an upholsterer at McGarity’s Business Products in Gainesville.

The couple plan to wed Oct. 11, 2014, at The King and Prince Resort in St. Simons Island.
