Rick and Donna Conner of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter Jessica Lucy Conner to Rustin Lee Smith, son of Gary and Pam Smith of Gainesville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Calvin and Linda Martin of Clermont and Charlie and Bobbie Conner of Lula.

She is a 2005 graduate of North Hall High School in Gainesville. She is pursuing a degree in middle grades education at North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega. She is a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mary Smith of Gainesville, the late Horace Smith and Murphy and Carolyn Waters of Gainesville.

He is a 2002 graduate of East Hall High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 2006 from the University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in criminal law. He is pursuing a doctorate of jurisprudence at Emory Law School in Atlanta. He is a student member of The American Bar Association.

The couple plan to wed Jan. 3, 2009, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Gainesville.
